The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who succumbed to injuries sustained after his wife allegedly set their apartment ablaze during a domestic dispute on September 22, 2025.
In a statement issued by Captain Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, the Army revealed that the officer was initially treated at the base before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he died on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The Nigerian Army expresses deep sadness and strongly condemns the tragic death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of 6 Battalion, who died from severe burns sustained during a domestic dispute with his wife at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State, on 22 September 2025.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident followed a heated argument between the couple, allegedly due to a family crisis. The altercation reportedly escalated when Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Samson Haruna set household items on fire, which tragically engulfed the officer.
Lieutenant Haruna was stabilized at the Battalion Medical Facility before being evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he passed away in the early hours of 7 October 2025.
The Army condemned the act of domestic violence and reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful family relationships and mutual respect.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lieutenant Haruna. The Nigerian Army will continue to advocate for healthy relationships, address domestic violence, and foster a culture of respect and dialogue within families and communities.
