Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, made her return to the National Assembly on Tuesday after serving a six-month suspension imposed by the Senate earlier this year.
Smiling as she walked into the chamber, Akpoti-Uduaghan resumed plenary with other lawmakers following a 10-week recess. She was accompanied by a few loyalists and activists, including Aisha Yesufu, who was seen in the gallery. Others were reportedly denied entry.
The session was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Upon entering, Akpoti-Uduaghan exchanged pleasantries with colleagues before taking her seat.
She was suspended in March 2025 for alleged misconduct after protesting the reassignment of her seat by Akpabio on February 20. Her office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, was locked on March 6 but was recently reopened by Deputy Director of the National Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji.
Two weeks ago, upon reentering her office, Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly described Akpabio as a “dictator.
Her return marks the end of a contentious suspension that had drawn nationwide attention. The Senate chamber recorded a strong turnout, signaling a full resumption of legislative activities.
