Egbin Power Plc has launched a technology-driven empowerment programme aimed at equipping youths from its host communities of Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan with relevant digital skills to thrive in today’s evolving economy.
The initiative, implemented under the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) framework, seeks to enhance employability, promote entrepreneurship and broaden access to opportunities within the digital space.
Speaking at the launch, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, stressing that its responsibility goes beyond power generation to empowering people within its operating environment.
“In today’s digital age, technology is no longer optional; it is a critical driver of economic inclusion and growth,” Bounour said. “Without deliberate efforts to bridge digital gaps, development becomes uneven and unsustainable.”
He explained that the Tech Empowerment Programme was created to address this challenge by providing young people from Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan with practical, in-demand digital skills capable of improving employability, fostering entrepreneurship and unlocking new economic opportunities within their communities.
According to him, the pilot cohort comprises beneficiaries drawn from the three communities, who will undergo structured training in ICT fundamentals, graphic design, full-stack web development, digital marketing, cybersecurity and data analytics. The programme blends classroom instruction with hands-on practical sessions.
Egbin Power noted that participants were selected through a screening process that evaluated curiosity, determination and willingness to learn. In addition to technical training, the programme also covers essential workplace competencies, including ethics, problem-solving, collaboration, professionalism and digital responsibility.
Bounour urged the beneficiaries to become ambassadors of the initiative by upholding values of integrity, discipline and service, noting that their progress would serve as proof that well-targeted corporate responsibility initiatives can deliver measurable impact.
He further encouraged participants to see themselves as agents of change within their communities, urging them to learn with character, share knowledge, mentor others and deploy their skills to solve real local challenges.
“The true legacy of this programme will not only be individual success stories, but the ripple effects of shared growth and community development,” he added.
The launch of the Tech Empowerment Programme reinforces Egbin Power Plc’s commitment to sustainable community development, trust-building and long-term value creation.
