A Norwegian flight from Stockholm to Paris on August 27, 2025, had just taken off from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport when a loud bang was heard, causing panic among passengers.
The noise was later traced to a tyre explosion, prompting the pilots to declare an emergency and return to the airport.
The Boeing 737 landed safely with emergency services on standby. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused delays for other flights.
Norwegian Air has confirmed the incident and stated that a full inspection of the aircraft is underway.
The plane — carrying 181 passengers — was forced to return to Arlanda Airport after what a Norwegian press officer described as a “technical problem.
The airline later clarified that the issue was linked to a tyre burst shortly after takeoff. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, and the flight crew managed a safe landing without injuries.
According to an official at the control centre, a tire explosion occurred during takeoff, as reported by “Expressen”.
The incident prompted an immediate alert, and emergency services were placed on standby to receive the aircraft upon its return to Arlanda.
I can understand that it might feel unsettling, but the landing was carried out without drama,” the Norwegian spokesperson added, reassuring the public that all 181 passengers were safe and no injuries were reported.
Debris from the explosion was reportedly discovered on the runway shortly after takeoff, prompting a temporary closure for inspection and cleanup.
This incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Boeing over safety concerns tied to several of its aircraft models, intensifying public and regulatory pressure on the aviation giant. On June 12, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Air India crashed in Ahmedabad, tragically killing all 12 crew members and 229 of the 230 passengers aboard.
