Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, has accused operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and individuals allegedly linked to the Ekiti State Government of being behind an attack on him and his associates in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore made the allegations in a statement shared on his social media platform following the reported attack on Friday.
He claimed that the individuals who attacked his team came from the Ekiti State Government House and received tracking and operational support from DSS operatives.
According to him, DSS operatives had been trailing and harassing him and his associates since their arrival in the state on Thursday.
He further alleged that the security operatives threatened the manager of a restaurant where they had earlier eaten, warning him against allowing the group to use his premises again.
Sowore said the attack occurred shortly after he completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti.h
He alleged that the attackers descended on his team in a violent manner, with the alleged assistance of DSS operatives.
Describing the incident as evidence of the level of insecurity and political intimidation in the country, Sowore condemned what he characterised as an assault on democratic rights and freedom of expression.
He ended his statement with the hashtag #RevolutionNow.
As of the time of filing this report, the allegations against the Ekiti State Government and the DSS had not been independently established. Their responses to the allegations were also not contained in Sowore’s statement.
