The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Murtala Muazu, has assured stakeholders of improved service delivery and trade facilitation at Nigeria’s busiest seaport.
Speaking on Monday, October 5, 2026, during an interactive session with stakeholders at the Apapa Area Command, Muazu stated that his administration would review the processing of Demand Notices (DN), strengthen collaboration with shipping lines, and implement targeted capacity-building programs for both Customs officers and port users.
The CAC highlighted that his leadership would focus on practical, high-impact interventions while building on existing operational structures to boost efficiency across the command.
“I urge everyone to assist my team and me in delivering the mandate entrusted to us. I want to assure the trading public that I am here to consolidate and strengthen the solid foundations already laid,” Muazu said.
Addressing concerns raised by stakeholders regarding training needs, the CAC revealed that the command has already developed a structured training roadmap.
He explained that the capacity-building exercise will begin with officers responsible for cargo examination and release before expanding to other operational units and external port users. According to him, a better understanding of Customs procedures by all parties is critical to reducing delays and ensuring seamless trade flow.
Muazu further reiterated his commitment to continuous engagement with key industry players to identify emerging operational bottlenecks and implement joint solutions.
The stakeholder meeting marks one of the strategic moves by the command’s new leadership to foster collaboration, strengthen trust, and drive operational efficiency at the Apapa Port.
