The Nigerian Air Force has released the names of the 25 people aboard NAF 931, an ATR 42 aircraft that crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State, confirming that no survivors have been found.
The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos, had five crew members and 20 passengers on board when the accident occurred on Monday.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in a statement issued Tuesday by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said search-and-rescue operations were immediately activated in coordination with relevant authorities.
The statement followed earlier conflicting figures concerning the number of people aboard the aircraft.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the crash as a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the nation, while extending condolences to the families, loved ones and colleagues of the victims.
Aneke assured the bereaved families of the Service’s full support and directed a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The NAF urged members of the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information as investigators work to determine what caused the crash.
