The Ogun State Police Command has released ₦37.9 million in financial support to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers, as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance Scheme.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, presented cheques totalling ₦37,913,081.77 to beneficiaries at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Monday.
The intervention is designed to provide financial assistance to families of police officers who died while serving the nation.
Representing the Commissioner of Police at the presentation was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Oliver Ezirim, alongside members of the Command Management Team.
The event began with a one-minute silence in honour of the deceased officers, whose years of service and sacrifices were acknowledged by the Police authorities.
DCP Ezirim reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to improving the welfare of police personnel and their families.
He noted that although no amount of money could replace the lives of the fallen officers, the financial intervention demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s appreciation of their sacrifices and its responsibility to the families they left behind.
The Group Life Assurance Scheme is one of the welfare mechanisms through which financial support is provided to the families of eligible police officers who die in the course of service.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs John Shito expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Ogun State Police Command for the assistance.
She assured the Police authorities that the funds would be judiciously utilised for the welfare and sustenance of the beneficiaries’ families.
The Ogun State Police Command also paid tribute to the memory of the deceased officers, stressing that their families remain part of the wider Police family.
The presentation highlights the financial and welfare support available to families of police personnel who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
