The Ogun State Police Command has commended 39 officers, including five retirees and 34 serving personnel, for exceptional dedication, professionalism, and meritorious service to the Nigeria Police Force and the public.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, presented the awards on Monday, September 28, 2026, during a ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
Recognizing Decades of Sacrifice
Speaking at the event, CP Ojajuni highlighted policing as a demanding national task that requires deep sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. He noted that completing decades in the Force—particularly 35 years of service—represents a landmark contribution deserving of official celebrate.
CP Ojajuni explained that the awards were inspired by a similar commendation initiative by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
”Honouring retired officers goes beyond celebrating past service,” CP Ojajuni remarked. “It preserves institutional memory, strengthens ties between active and retired officers, and reinforces the value of integrity within the Force.”
Key Awardees
Among the five retired personnel recognized were former tactical commanders and key operational officers, including:
- CSP Salami Akanbi Moruf (Rtd.), former Commander, SWAT
- DSP Olaifa Emmanuel (Rtd.), former 2IC, SWAT
- DSP Ayanlola Olatunji (Rtd.), former Officer-in-Charge, SIT-REP
- DST Saanu John (Rtd.) and DST Anifa Bello (Rtd.)
The 34 serving awardees cut across key tactical units, administration, and field operations. Notable recipients included SP Shittu Bamidele (OC Anti-Kidnapping), SP Gbenga Ayodele (OC Anti-Robbery), DSP Sheriff Balogun (2IC SWAT), ASP Adetutu Adesida, alongside several inspectors, sergeants, and corporals.
Gooding Messages & Appreciation
Goodwill messages were delivered by senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Gbenga Adeoye, alongside DPOs from Ibara and Aregbe divisions, who praised the retirees for their long-standing diligence and sacrifice.
Responding on behalf of the retirees, CSP Moruf expressed gratitude to CP Ojajuni—describing him as a mentor—and affirmed their readiness to support the Force whenever called upon. Speaking for active personnel, SP Bamidele pledged renewed dedication to responsive, community-oriented policing.
DCP Oliver Ezirim of the State CID delivered the vote of thanks, closing an event that underscored the Command’s commitment to boosting morale, honoring merit, and upholding discipline.
