Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed 2,500 food packs to vulnerable residents across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle food insecurity and support families.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the distribution event, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was designed to provide immediate relief to families facing food insecurity while strengthening community resilience.
“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.
He said the programme also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
According to him, Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, in partnership with 19 organisations across Nigeria.
The Edo State Government commended the initiative, with Governor Monday Okpebholo represented at the event by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue.
Uwangue described the intervention as an example of how corporate organisations could contribute to the wellbeing of communities, particularly as families contend with rising demands on household resources.
“On behalf of our Governor and the good people of Edo, particularly the people of Uromi, I thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity,” he said.
He also urged other corporate organisations to support communities where they operate.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and its partners, saying the food packs would help ease the burden of feeding their families.
