The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State has registered 15,777 voter transfers and distributed 6,063 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Feyijimi Saseyi Ibiyemi, made the disclosure on Thursday while speaking on FRONTLINE, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu.
Ibiyemi noted that the figures highlight active public participation in electoral updates. She explained that voters who changed their residential addresses have taken advantage of official INEC channels to request transfers to polling units closer to their homes.
Special Support for Persons with Disabilities
Reaffirming the commission’s commitment to inclusive elections, the REC assured Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) that tailored measures would be provided on election days to guarantee a seamless voting process.
”The Commission recently held an engagement at our headquarters with people living with disabilities to encourage their participation,” Ibiyemi stated. “They are not left out. The law guarantees their right to vote.”
She added that PWDs would receive priority access at polling units, alongside assistive tools such as Braille materials for visually impaired voters and magnifying glasses for individuals with albinism.
Strict Warning Against Electoral Fraud
Ibiyemi issued a stern warning to INEC field personnel against engaging in electoral malpractice or compromising official guidelines during accreditation, voting, or collation stages.
”If anyone is caught committing irregularities or malpractice, they will face strict disciplinary and legal sanctions,” she warned, emphasizing that official accountability remains critical to safeguarding public confidence in the electoral system.
Party Finance Tracking and Public Sensitization
Ahead of the campaigns, the REC confirmed that INEC’s political party departments are actively tracking campaign activities and financial disclosures in compliance with legal limits. Trained staff will review financial reports submitted by political organizations in coordination with security agencies.
Additionally, the commission has broadened its public outreach by partnering with traditional rulers, market leaders, religious groups, and tertiary institutions to discourage vote-buying, political thuggery, and voter apathy among youths.
According to INEC’s timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
Ibiyemi urged citizens to verify voter records exclusively through official INEC portals rather than unverified third-party channels.
