President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said the planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is designed to give ordinary Nigerians an opportunity to own shares in one of Africa’s most significant industrial assets.
Dangote said the refinery’s proposed public offering would be “for the people”, stressing that the subscription process was being simplified to enable Nigerians from different walks of life to participate.
According to him, the objective of the IPO goes beyond raising capital, as it is also aimed at broadening ownership and allowing Nigerians to benefit directly from the refinery’s growth.
“This refinery belongs to Nigerians and Africans. It was built to transform our economy, create prosperity, and secure our energy future. We want the people to share in that success. That is why we are making the IPO process simple, transparent and accessible. Anyone with a Bank Verification Number (BVN) will be able to invest and become a co-owner of this world-class refinery,” Dangote said.
He explained that technology-driven subscription channels were being deployed to reduce bureaucracy and make the process easier for both first-time and experienced investors.
Dangote said the simplified framework would allow civil servants, artisans, traders, professionals, young entrepreneurs, cooperative societies, pension contributors and Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the offer.
“Historically, wealth has often been concentrated in the hands of a few. Our objective is different. We want to create opportunities for millions of Nigerians to benefit from the value being created by this refinery.
“This IPO represents a unique opportunity for people to own part of an enterprise that is already transforming Africa’s refining industry,” he said.
The industrialist said broad-based share ownership would help deepen Nigeria’s capital market and promote more inclusive economic growth.
He also recalled that previous public offerings by companies within the Dangote Group had created investment opportunities through capital appreciation and dividends, expressing confidence that the refinery’s long-term prospects would deliver value to shareholders.
Dangote said opening the refinery’s ownership to retail investors was consistent with his belief that national economic development should be accompanied by widespread citizen participation.
“People should not only benefit as consumers of refined petroleum products; they should also benefit as owners. We are creating a pathway through which everyday Nigerians can participate directly in the growth story of this refinery,” he added.
The planned IPO is expected to attract significant interest in Nigeria’s capital market because of the refinery’s strategic importance to domestic energy supply, regional refining capacity, foreign exchange generation and economic development.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has a stated capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and is described by the company as the world’s largest single-train refinery. Its operations have increased Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity while supporting exports of refined petroleum products to markets within Africa and beyond.
Dangote reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency, sound corporate governance and sustainable shareholder value.
He added that further information on the IPO structure, subscription channels and participation requirements would be communicated to the public through the appropriate regulatory and capital market channels.
“The refinery is more than an industrial project. It is a symbol of what Nigerians can achieve. We are now opening the doors for millions of people to become part of that journey,” he said.
