The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday officially flagged off its 2027 presidential and National Assembly campaigns in Ogun Central Senatorial District amid a massive turnout of party supporters and residents.
Tens of thousands of PDP supporters and indigenes reportedly trooped into the streets across the three Federal Constituencies that make up the senatorial district to welcome the party’s campaign train.
The campaign commenced in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, where residents waved enthusiastically from the streets and balconies of adjoining buildings as the team arrived at Agbado Station.
Among those who led the campaign train were the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu; his running mate, Hajiya Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo; and other party leaders and dignitaries.
In Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where Arch. Dele Olaleye is the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives, the campaign team was also welcomed by a large crowd that had gathered at NTA Junction, Totoro, from as early as 10am.
Residents and supporters sang solidarity songs while the party’s senatorial and governorship candidates pledged purposeful representation and effective leadership at the senatorial and federal constituency levels.
A similar show of support was witnessed in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where Hon. Toyin Amuzu is the PDP House of Representatives candidate.
Thousands of supporters reportedly joined the campaign convoy to the Ake Pavilion, venue of the Ogun Central flag-off rally.
Addressing the gathering, Adebutu urged voters in Ogun Central to support Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate whose previous representation had delivered significant benefits to the people.
He said Ogun Central must reject what he described as non-performance and embrace a new era of development and good governance.
Adebutu also urged residents and PDP supporters to turn out in large numbers to vote for the party on January 16, 2027, while calling on them to protect their votes and resist intimidation.
Speaking at the rally, Obasanjo expressed appreciation for the reception she received across the senatorial district.
She said residents had continued to acknowledge projects and initiatives implemented during her previous representation, particularly efforts aimed at improving the welfare of the people and reducing poverty.
Obasanjo pledged to do more if elected, promising to work toward ensuring that residents benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Several residents and supporters who spoke at the campaign expressed their commitment to the PDP candidates and pledged to vote for the party in the January 2027 elections.
“We will vote and stand by our votes for PDP,” supporters declared.
