The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
Operatives of the Mowe Division carried out the intelligence-led operation at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at a suspected syndicate hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe.
According to the Police Command, preliminary investigations indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been taking place at the facility for some time.
The two pregnant women rescued were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered during the operation.
The suspects arrested were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
The Police said further intelligence-led operations took officers to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
Although Effiong was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established. The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as efforts continue to locate the missing baby.
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The Police said the investigation would focus on determining the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locating the missing newborn and ensuring that all suspects found culpable are prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other forms of crime across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the Police with credible information about suspicious persons or activities.
