The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed five officers over their alleged involvement in extortion and other criminal activities, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against corruption, abuse of office and professional misconduct.
The dismissal, which took effect on July 30, 2026, followed disciplinary proceedings conducted in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that impunity will no longer be tolerated within the Force.
The dismissed officers are Corporal Mordi Philip, Corporal Destiny Emmanuel, Corporal Uwatse Emmanuel, Corporal Okon Elvis and Corporal Samuel David Obeten.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, speaking through the Force spokesperson, Ikoedem, said the action underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to accountability, professionalism and ethical policing.
She also warned Point of Sale (POS) operators and members of the public against aiding criminal activities, stressing that anyone found collaborating with corrupt officers in extortion or laundering proceeds of crime would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police spokesperson commended members of the public who reported the officers’ alleged misconduct, noting that their cooperation played a crucial role in exposing the offences. She encouraged anyone with additional information relating to the case to come forward to assist with the ongoing prosecution.
“Let this serve as a clear warning to every police officer across the country. The Nigeria Police Force will no longer tolerate any abuse of office, corruption, extortion or criminality within its ranks.
Any officer who betrays the public trust will be identified, investigated, dismissed where appropriate and prosecuted,” she said.
She reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law, transparency and professionalism, adding that officers who uphold the ethics and values of policing would continue to be recognised and rewarded, while those found guilty of criminal conduct would have no place in the organisation.
The Police also reiterated IGP Disu’s commitment to strengthening security operations and deepening community partnerships as part of broader efforts to tackle insecurity and restore public confidence in law enforcement across the country.
The disciplinary action aligns with the Inspector-General’s broader police reform agenda aimed at enhancing professionalism, accountability and public confidence in the Force.
