The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with the pilot rollout commencing at the PTML Area Command as part of efforts to strengthen digital administration and improve operational efficiency across the Service.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, described the initiative as another milestone in the Service’s ongoing modernisation drive aimed at leveraging technology to simplify personnel administration and enhance the speed and efficiency of documentation processes.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCG Oluyomi Adebakin, the CGC said the deployment of the MIS File Tracker reflects the Service’s commitment to deploying digital solutions that promote operational efficiency, transparency and seamless trade facilitation.
Adebakin noted that the project is a continuation of the Service’s technology-driven reforms, following the successful introduction of initiatives such as the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.
She explained that the MIS File Tracker would strengthen PTML Command’s reputation as one of the Service’s leading innovation hubs by simplifying administrative processes and improving workflow management.
According to her, the MIS is an enterprise platform designed to serve as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, enabling the use of a unified dataset across all departments for administrative activities.
She added that officers would be able to carry out key administrative functions through the platform, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty roster management, internal staff orders, nominal roll management and other personnel-related processes.
The platform also provides channels for users to submit feedback on areas requiring modifications, additions and improvements, while supporting data-driven decision-making and reducing manual processes across the Service.
The PTML Area Command, widely recognised as one of the Nigeria Customs Service’s most technologically advanced commands, has consistently served as the pilot location for major digital transformation projects, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s ability to successfully implement the pilot phase and serve as a model for Customs innovation.
He said the command remains committed to maximising all technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Service’s management.
Miko thanked the Comptroller-General for the confidence reposed in the command, revealing that efforts were underway to reduce the cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes from the current two hours to just one hour.
He described the introduction of the MIS File Tracker as a significant step toward sustaining the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading customs administrations.
The Acting Controller assured that the PTML Area Command would justify the confidence placed in it by ensuring the successful implementation of the MIS File Tracker from the pilot stage through full deployment.
