Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac of the Nigerian Army has been honoured as a hero after paying the supreme price during the military operation that secured the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Adamawa State-born officer was killed in the early stage of the rescue mission while leading troops in a fierce gun battle against suspected kidnappers.
His death underscored the dangers faced by security personnel combating kidnapping and violent crime.
Lt. Isaac, who was born on August 25, 1997, was laid to rest on July 10 at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, Adamawa State. Coincidentally, the abducted pupils and teachers regained their freedom the same day after spending 56 days in captivity.
The rescue operation, led by Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife and executed by a joint security team, resulted in the safe recovery of the victims. Several suspected kidnappers were arrested, while others were reportedly killed during the operation.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde paid tribute to the fallen officer, describing his sacrifice as an extraordinary act of courage, patriotism and selflessness in service to the nation.
Military authorities also acknowledged the heavy cost of the operation while reaffirming their resolve to protect lives and intensify the fight against kidnapping across the country.
The death of Lt. Isaac has continued to attract tributes from Nigerians, who have described him as a fallen hero whose ultimate sacrifice made the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers possible.
