As the May 20, 2026 deadline draws closer, Wema Bank has announced the final call for submissions for children and teenagers interested in participating in its One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day initiative.
The initiative, which was first launched in May 2025 as part of the bank’s 80th anniversary celebration, was created to commemorate Children’s Day in a unique and inspiring way. Guided by the anniversary theme, “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities,” the programme was designed to connect the bank’s legacy with the dreams and aspirations of young Nigerians.
The One-Day MD/CEO initiative gives children across Nigeria the rare opportunity to serve as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank for one day during the Children’s Day celebration.
In the inaugural edition held in 2025, 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerged as the winner, generating widespread conversations across the country on Children’s Day. The initiative inspired many children to pursue excellence and ambition, while parents applauded the bank for its continued dedication to empowering young people and investing in their future.
This year, the initiative returns on a much larger scale as the bank prepares to select another child or teenager between the ages of 0 and 16 to step into the role of MD/CEO for a day.
The selected winner will have the opportunity to participate in board meetings, make strategic decisions, and gain firsthand experience of the responsibilities attached to leading one of Nigeria’s foremost financial institutions. Wema Bank is widely recognised as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous national bank and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT.
To participate, interested children and teenagers are required to create a 60-second video explaining their ideal role in banking and what they hope to achieve in the industry. The video must be posted on any social media platform using the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities while tagging @wemabank.
According to the bank, the participant whose post receives the highest number of likes will emerge as the winner and will assume the position of MD/CEO of Wema Bank for one day on Monday, May 25, 2026, as part of the Children’s Day celebration.
Parents and guardians have been encouraged to support their children in making submissions before the entry deadline, which closes on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Further details about the initiative are available on the bank’s official social media platforms.
