Union Bank of Nigeria has been honoured with the Best SME Growth Banking Initiatives Award for 2025 by the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON) at the Nigeria National SME Business Awards held recently in Lagos.
The award recognised the bank’s strategic leadership and commitment to supporting the growth and resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through innovative financial solutions tailored to business expansion and long-term value creation.
Receiving the award on behalf of the bank, Ayokunnumi Abraham, Head of SME Segment at Union Bank of Nigeria, described the recognition as a strong endorsement of the bank’s commitment to empowering SMEs across Nigeria.
He said the bank remained focused on making banking services simpler, faster, and more accessible for businesses.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition, which reflects Union Bank’s continued commitment to helping SMEs grow by making banking simpler, faster, and more accessible,” Abraham said.
He noted that improvements to the bank’s specialised digital platforms, including Union360, had significantly reduced the time required for businesses to onboard and begin transactions.
According to him, the enhancements have shortened onboarding processes, increased digital adoption among SME customers, and supported the acquisition of new business clients.
“Our focus remains on delivering practical solutions that help Nigerian businesses thrive,” he added.
The Nigeria National SME Business Awards was organised by ASBON in partnership with the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment.
The event brought together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to recognise individuals and organisations contributing significantly to the development of Nigeria’s SME ecosystem.
Union Bank of Nigeria said it would continue to deepen its support for SMEs through customer-focused solutions and initiatives aimed at strengthening business growth across the country.
