Residents of Ajah were thrown into shock following the tragic death of a 65-year-old transport manager, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, who was allegedly killed by his gateman at his residence.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning as the deceased, who worked with Okeyson Transport, was preparing to attend church. According to family members, Chief Nwalieze had gone downstairs to the parking area, where he kept some car spare parts and a solar panel.
Concern grew when his family noticed that his vehicles were still parked and repeated phone calls to him went unanswered. Suspicion soon fell on the gateman after he reportedly gave conflicting accounts of the victim’s whereabouts. Initially, he claimed that Chief Nwalieze had gone out with a friend, but when the friend was contacted, he denied seeing him.
Shortly after, the gateman fled the compound, further raising alarm. A search of the premises led to the discovery of Chief Nwalieze’s lifeless body in one of the downstairs flats. He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
At the time of the incident, the deceased was at home with his wife, daughter, and other domestic staff, who were upstairs and unaware of the attack.
The case has since been reported to the police, who have launched an investigation. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
The incident has left the community in mourning and raised fresh concerns about safety and trust within residential homes.
