In a move to deepen ongoing police reforms and strengthen internal security operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has appointed CSP Daramola Sunday Thompson as the new Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The development is part of the broader reform agenda championed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which seeks to reposition tactical units across state commands for improved efficiency and professionalism.
Police authorities said the restructuring of the VCRU is aimed at building a specialised, intelligence-led unit equipped to tackle violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other serious offences. The initiative is also expected to improve coordination among tactical teams and ensure faster response to security threats across Ogun State.
The appointment followed a comprehensive screening exercise to identify competent officers for the unit.
This was immediately followed by an orientation programme for selected personnel, where the Commissioner of Police and members of the Command Management Team provided operational guidelines and strategic direction.
Speaking during the exercise, Ojajuni emphasised the need for discipline, accountability, and adherence to global best practices in policing. He urged officers of the unit to operate within the confines of the law while maintaining a high level of professionalism in dealing with members of the public.
CSP Daramola brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various operational and investigative capacities. His previous postings include Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Cultism Unit and CP Monitoring Unit in Ogun State, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Car Theft Units in Ekiti State, and Divisional Police Officer at Noyo Division in Ebonyi State.
The police boss expressed confidence in Daramola’s ability to lead the unit effectively and deliver on its mandate of reducing violent crimes in the state.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the reform-driven approach would further enhance public confidence and strengthen community-police relations.
