The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has responded to allegations of extortion circulating on social media, firmly denying any institutional involvement and announcing the commencement of a full-scale investigation into the claims.
In a statement issued by the agency, LASTMA said its attention was drawn to a Facebook post published by “Objectv Media,” in which an individual identified as Tosin alleged that, beginning from an unspecified Monday, some officers arrested commercial bus drivers along Coastal Road and demanded ₦100,000 before releasing their vehicles.
The Authority described the allegation as serious and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, abuse of office, or extortion by its personnel. It emphasized that LASTMA operates as a disciplined and professional government agency guided by strict ethical standards.
According to the statement, management has already commenced a thorough, impartial, and comprehensive investigation into the matter. The agency assured the public that any officer found guilty after due process would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established rules and regulations.
As part of efforts to ensure transparency, LASTMA invited the individual identified as Tosin to appear before the Office of the General Manager at its Oshodi headquarters with verifiable evidence to support the allegation, stressing that the burden of proof lies with the accuser.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and high standards of public service, adding that it remains focused on maintaining public trust and ensuring its officers uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and professionalism.
LASTMA also encouraged members of the public to report any suspected misconduct through official and verified channels, reiterating its dedication to a fair, orderly, and rights-respecting traffic management system across Lagos State.
