No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fresh accident at the Sango-Ota tollgate end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The latest accident comes barely two weeks after a similar tragedy occurred at the same tollgate, in which six persons lost their lives while three others were injured.
According to reports, the recent accident, like the previous one, involved an articulated vehicle that rammed into two other vehicles and crushed several people along its path.
The truck was reportedly descending towards the tollgate area from the Ilo-Awela axis on its way to Lagos when it allegedly suffered brake failure, leading to the tragic incident.
Traffic officers from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the police were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and control traffic.
An eyewitness told The Daily Torch Media that the injured victims were rushed to the State Hospital in Onipanu, Ota, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue. The accident initially caused heavy traffic around the tollgate, as commuters and motorists were caught in a gridlock while emergency responders worked to evacuate the victims and clear the road.
