Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development in Nigeria and across Africa as Lagos STL delivered a commanding performance to lift the coveted Majekodunmi Cup at the 2026 NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament.
The thrilling finale marked another milestone for GTCO, headline sponsor of one of Africa’s oldest and most prestigious polo events, seamlessly blending elite sport, rich heritage, and high-profile social engagement on the international stage.
Held at the historic Lagos Polo Club from January 27 to February 15, the 2026 edition attracted top local and international teams, captains of industry, dignitaries, and thousands of spectators, further cementing its status as Africa’s premier polo showcase.
In a gripping Majekodunmi Cup final, Lagos STL outclassed Shoreline/A1 10–7 in a fast-paced encounter that was sealed by a dramatic late goal. The victory capped a remarkable campaign for STL, who completed an impressive title sweep by also winning the Independence Cup, Dapo Ojora Cup, Owen Cup, and the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup — underlining their dominance throughout the tournament.
Speaking on the broader impact of the competition, GTCO Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, highlighted the transformative power of sports in driving national development and strengthening global positioning.

Lagos STL captain, Yasin Amusan, who emerged Most Valuable Player of the Majekodunmi Cup final, described the triumph as a product of preparation, unity, and resilience, while commending supporters for their steadfast encouragement.
Although Shoreline/A1 finished runners-up in both the Majekodunmi and Independence Cups, they secured the Oba of Lagos Cup earlier in the tournament. Other standout moments included Lagos Art Hotel’s dramatic Chapel Hill Denham Open Cup victory and Kano Golden Alchemy’s commanding display to clinch the Sani Dangote Memorial Cup — reflecting the depth of competition and nationwide participation.
