The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that Seplat Energy Plc will shut down its gas production facilities for four days to carry out routine maintenance, a move expected to temporarily reduce gas supply to power generation companies across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the maintenance is scheduled to take place from February 12 to February 15, 2026.
According to the statement, Seplat Energy Plc, a joint venture partner of NNPC and a key supplier of gas into the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network, is undertaking the exercise as part of standard industry safety and asset integrity protocols.
“The public is hereby informed that Seplat Energy Plc… has scheduled routine maintenance on its gas production facilities from 12th to 15th February 2026,” the statement read.
NNPC explained that periodic maintenance is essential to ensure the continued reliability, efficiency and safe operation of critical gas infrastructure, as well as to minimise the risk of unplanned outages.
The company noted that during the four-day period, there will be a temporary reduction in gas supply into the NGIC pipeline network. As a result, some power generation companies that rely on the supply may experience reduced gas availability, which could moderately affect electricity generation nationwide.
However, NNPC said it is working closely with Seplat Energy to ensure the maintenance is completed safely and on schedule. In addition, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited is engaging alternative gas suppliers to cushion the anticipated supply gap and maintain stability across the network.
Full gas supply into the NGIC system is expected to resume promptly upon completion of the maintenance exercise, allowing affected power generation companies to return to normal operations.
